The Surprise of the Unexpected
“A closeness between streetwear and couture emerge to create a modern-day direction.  We embark on a new casual way of dressing up…Or is it a high-end way of dressing down? No matter, it is really only the surprise of the unexpected that interest us.”

Dori’s Golden Rule

“I started my high-fashion jewelry brand in 1987″ says Dori. “A big part of my mission as a woman designer was to resurrect women’s crafts and in particular needlework as artistic means to express female experience. As a woman designing for women, my ‘golden rule’ is to create jewelry pieces that are thrilling-intriguing-surprising, yet are comfortable. I want my customers to be able to express themselves and to actively participate in the creation of their own image. I also want them to love wearing my pieces because they’re lightweight and they can easily wear them all day long.”

“Mastering the technique that I developed takes a long period of intensive training. My artisans and I spend many hours together and we sit on an all open-plan one floor, so that there’s continually an open communication. Naturally, when I hire new artisans, it’s for l-o-n-g term. Since the beginning, bringing women together and being socially responsible have been deeply instilled in my brand’s culture. My team does not look like the average work place staff — it’s an all women team with the exception of one man (who happens to be my husband 😍) — so equal pay is not an issue here. I’m proud to say that most of my team’s artisans have been working with me for ten years and longer!”

Sip, talk fashion & ring in the Holidays

To ring in the holiday season, Dori recently hosted a holiday get-together with fashion bloggers at her flagship store. The event was as chic as can be… and full of Holiday style inspiration.

After a toast (with a glass of bubbly of course) and some tasty noshes, the fashion bloggers asked Dori about the biggest fall-winter trends and how she incorporated them in her collection.  Here are Dori’s thoughts about 2 of the biggest fall trends:

“When the fall collections debuted at the various fashion weeks, it was impossible not to notice that fringe was all over the runways ” said Dori.  “My Paris collection is party-ready with glittering Swarovski crystals and swaying tassels.  Yet, the subdued colors and geometric shapes add a refined aesthetic to the look. Another thing I love about this collection is that it allows the asymmetrical earrings mix & match.

“Leopard, python, zebra, croc and other animal prints roamed free and wild across the catwalks this season.  Not ready for head-to-toe leopard print? Why not start by subtly adding Zafirah mid-size animal print earrings to your outfit and then work your way up to the big statement Zafirah pieces? After all, animal print inspires self- confidence, independence and….just a little bit of shameless self-promotion.”

Whichever trend you’ll be taking up in your outfits this season, we wish that your holidays and New Year may be filled with happiness and fab style!

70 Years of Craft and Design

Israel 70 years of craft & design - catalogue cover page

In celebration of Israel’s 70th anniversary, Mingei International Museum, in collaboration with the House of Israel and its curator Smadar Samson mounted a magnificent exhibition of Israeli craft and design. Beautifully laid out and filled with an expansive range of creations the show presented art objects from the late 19th century through the present, including work by Israel’s most visible and interesting designers working today such as Dori Csengeri.

From the show’s catalogue:
Epic style captures Dori Csengeri Imagination, and her Camelot haute couture necklace is a reminiscent of medieval gowns, fierce battle gear and dragons’ scales.  With its immaculate embellishments and its hand-stitched linen embossed with gold leaf, the necklace strives to find as Csengeri puts it, the “balance between timelessness and timeliness”.

City of Lights

During the holidays, Dori enjoyed the festive atmosphere in Paris. She visited museums, did some first class window shopping and even managed to find a few open restaurants…

One of her ‘must-visit’ stops was Psyché boutique, where Dori was happy to ‘reunite’ with her creations…

Dream Weaver

Fashion designer Yaron Minkowski is one of Israel’s leading designers as well as an old friend of Dori’s.  So when Dori received an invitation for the opening night of Yaron’s retrospective exhibition, she immediately RSVP “Yes!”.

The exhibition “Yaron Minkowski – Dream Weaver” presents the designer’s major milestones over the past 30 years. The various pieces provide a glimpse into Minkowski’s philosophy of design.  His works are exciting, surprising, and explore the relationship between form, color, texture, fabric, and anything in between….
